Blue Knights Seeking Athletic Trainer, Head Cook for 2016 Tour

DENVER, CO – The Blue Knights Drum & Bugle Corps is seeking highly motivated individuals to fill the key support staff positions of Athletic Trainer and Head Cook as well as Interns for the 2016 summer national tour.

Each summer the Blue Knights operate a fast-paced and high-energy summer tour, traveling nearly 11,000 miles by road and performing more than 30 shows, parades, concerts, and clinics around the United States.

All Blue Knights paid position applicants will be required to:

  • Be 21 years of age or older.
  • Have valid drivers license.
  • Pass a rigorous driving record verification (admin, merchandise, prop only).
  • Submit to a FBI/BCI background check.
  • Be a United States citizen.
  • Work entire summer from May 21 to August 14, 2016 (conflicts will be considered on case-by-case basis).

Athletic Trainer

Duties:

  • Responsibilities include injury recognition, rehabilitative care, providing first responder care and general medical management of the performer athlete.
  • Provide on-going therapeutic measures to keep the student athletes performing at the highest level.
  • Advise staff and administration on individual performance status, and make recommendations on health and wellbeing.
  • Log and document all medical interactions with student athletes.

Qualifications: 

  • Candidate must be certified athletic trainer.
  • Be available for all, or a majority of, the summer tour starting on May 21 and ending on August 14th, 2016.
  • Be at least 21 years of age, have a valid driver’s license, and pass a criminal background check.
  • Have access to a laptop and cell phone with data plan.

The Athletic Trainer will travel with the drum corps. In addition, they will be provided four daily meals and a place to sleep with the drum corps. Compensation and travel reimbursement is available for this position.

Head Cook

Duties:

  • Oversee daily food preparation on the 48-foot Blue Knights Kitchen Truck.
  • Prepare 4 meals per day for approximately 200 people with assistance of interns and volunteers.
  • Oversee and manage food service volunteers as they assist with meal preparation.
  • Assist with planning and development of menu and recipes.
  • Keep and store on-hand food in an orderly fashion.
  • Complete weekly inventory.
  • Follow food safety guidelines.
  • Ensure Blue Knights kitchen truck remains clean and tidy.

Qualifications:

  • Food preparation experience, preferably for large groups.
  • Ability to follow recipes and directions as provided.
  • Ability to prepare meals on-time.
  • Cooking skills and experience necessary to prepare good-tasting meals.
  • Ability to work well with people and guide anyone willing to help.
  • Ability to lift at least 25 pounds and remain on your feet for extended periods of time.
  • Be available for all, or a majority of, the summer tour starting on May 15th (for one week of prep work) and ending on August 14, 2016.
  • Be at least 21 years of age, have a valid driver’s license, and pass a criminal background check.
  • Have access to your own laptop, email, and cell phone with data plan.

The Head Cook will travel in the management team vehicle. In addition, they will be provided four daily meals and a place to sleep with the drum corps. Compensation and travel reimbursement is available for this position.

Admin Intern

Will be the main service support for Blue Knights Drum & Bugle Corps and provide administrative assistance for Spring Training and Summer Tour while reporting to the Tour Director. The position requires a highly motivated individual who looks to develop their administrative abilities in working with a world class performing arts program. Working with the drum corps as an intern is a fast paced job, requiring high energy with diverse tasks being performed each day.

Duties:
  • Assist with day-to-day logistics including management of rehearsal and housing locations, communication with hosts, and facility oversight.
  • Assist with marketing and communications office work.
  • Assist with coordination and communication of volunteer, driving, and merchandise staff.
  • Assist with tour travel logistics including airport and travel pick-ups, medical appointments, and other errands.
  • Assist with food service logistics including management of shopping lists, inventory of food and supplies on hand, and food delivery.
  • Assist with record keeping and office management including maintenance of Google Calendar and Docs, and housing/rehearsal info documents.
  • Assist with other general housekeeping such as equipment maintenance, uniform cleaning and upkeep, food service assistance, and show-day logistics.
  • Manage prop logistics for rehearsal and performance.

Qualifications:

  • Ability to collaborate with others in fast-paced, intense, and stressful environment.
  • Strong aptitude for out-of-the-box critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to lift and carry at least 50 lbs.
  • Highly organized with a dedication for adopting and maintaining organizational habits amidst a disorderly daily environment.
  • Advanced knowledge of basic productivity programs like Microsoft Office, Apple, Google Apps, messaging programs, and email.
  • Aptitude for learning new collaboration technologies.
  • Experience in management, communications, or business is a plus.
  • Demonstrated aptitude for basic engineering and maintenance skills.
  • A working knowledge of drum corps or competitive marching performances and their operation is preferred. Experience in prop or theater management is a plus.

Athletic Trainer Intern

Will be the working closely with the licensed Athletic Trainer for the Blue Knights Drum & Bugle Corps. They will work with the staff to help prevent, diagnose, and treat injuries of our performers. Working with the drum corps as an intern is a fast paced job, requiring high energy with diverse tasks being performed each day.

Duties:

  • Assist the Athletic Trainer with injury recognition, rehabilitative care, providing first responder care and general medical management of the performer athlete.

Qualifications:

  • Candidate may be a certified athletic trainer intern or attending school.
  • Be available for all, or a majority of, the summer tour starting on May 21 and ending on August 14th, 2016.
  • Be at least 18 years of age, have a valid driver’s license, and pass a criminal background check.
  • Have access to a laptop and cell phone with data plan.

Communications & Media Intern

Will assist with the marketing and promotions of Ascend events such as Drums Along The Rockies and Corps Encore. In addition, tasks may also include generating content from the drum and bugle corps tour, authoring articles about the drum and bugle corps’ progress on tour and conducting interviews.

Duties:

  • Manage Blue Knights social media channels, develop new content, interact with existing followers and cultivate new audiences.
  • Maintain a content calendar and schedule for posting at high traffic times and in regular intervals.
  • Maintain a consistent voice across channels while tailoring content for target demographics.
  • Explore new (to the Blue Knights brand) social media channels.
  • Coordinate with merchandise crew to promote new items on social media channels.
  • Work with Development Director on campaign promotion.
  • Photograph rehearsals and performances, post photos to Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram daily.

Qualifications:

  • Strong photography skills as demonstrated through work sample (your best 7-10 photos).
  • Knowledge of photography and camera operation.
  • Social media skills as demonstrated through a work sample (link to page, screenshots, etc.).
  • Experience managing a social brand across platforms a plus.
  • Knowledge of social media platforms and proficient in their use.
  • Knowledge of social media management tools such as Hootsuite.
  • Innovative and fresh ideas consistent with furthering a newly established brand.
  • Must own a camera, preferably a DSLR with a telephoto lens.
  • Must own a laptop with Photoshop installed.
  • Must own a smart phone with social app abilities with a data plan.

Culinary Intern

Will be the work closely with the Food Manager for the Blue Knights Drum & Bugle Corps. They will learn everything there is to learn about managing food service for over 200 people during the summer national tour. There is no bigger restaurant in Denver that serves over 200 people, 4 times a day for 85 days of drum corps!

Duties:

  • Assist the Head Cook with meal planning, preparation, and cooking during training camps, all-days training and national tour.

Qualifications:

  • 18 years or older.
  • Valid drivers license with good driving record.
  • Ability to lift at least 50 lbs.
  • Own your own laptop and cell phone with data plan.
  • Available for entire summer (or portion of) May 21 – August 14.
  • Preferred experience/knowledge of drum corps, marching band or indoor activity is helpful.

Ensemble Intern (FILLED)

Duties:

  • Assist drum majors and staff with ensemble management on a daily basis.
  • Daily set-up and tear-down, maintenance, upkeep of touring audio system.
  • Work with staff members to establish and backup plan for all equipment.
  • Report to staff any issues or problems with system.

Qualifications:

  • Experience with audio equipment troubleshooting and repair.
  • Experience with wireless microphones including frequency coordination.
  • Experience with Digital Audio workstations and basic computer networking.
  • Ability to lift and carry 50 lbs.
  • Knowledge of marching arts a plus.

Merchandising Intern

Will actively be involved in the daily sales/inventory control of promotional products or brand wear for the Blue Knights Drum & Bugle Corps throughout the summer touring season. The position requires a highly motivated individual who looks to develop their merchandising skills in working with a world-class performing arts program. Working with the organization as an intern is a fast paced job, requiring high energy with diverse tasks being performed each day. NOTE: This position travels independently of the Blue Knights Drum & Bugle Corps and typically does not typically interact with the drum corps.

Duties:

  • Assist with daily set-up and tear-down of the BK Marketplace.
  • Be an outstanding ambassador of the Blue Knights at all shows and public events.
  • Sell Blue Knights merchandise and interact with thousands of fans in an upbeat and positive way.
  • Manage inventory and record keeping of product line and daily sales.
  • Assist the Tour Admin interns during the Blue Knights All-Days Training.
  • Collaborate closely with Merchandise Director and Development Director on development and refinement of the Blue Knights merchandising operation.

Qualifications:
