Alumni Spotlight: Danny Sibley

Name:
Danny Sibley

What year(s) did you march in the Blue Knights?
Blue Knights 2012 & 2013
Blue Knights Percussion Ensemble 2011, 2013 & 2014

What section?
Front Ensemble

Where did you attend high school?
Mountain Range High School

Education beyond high school?
MSU Denver with a degree in Mathematics and Elementary Education

What is your current occupation?
I am a 4th grade teacher at Cherry Drive Elementary School in the Adams 12 school district.

Why did you choose to march with the Blue Knights?
I was so fortunate to have a world class drum corp and percussion ensemble in my backyard. Since seeing BKPE for the first time in 2007 I was instantly hooked to this organization.

What is your favorite drum corps memory?
The story I still tell people is when we got rained out of rehearsal and we had an impromptu laundry block during the afternoon. While our laundry was being done, half of the front ensemble got pedicures next door. We felt like pampered rock stars entering that show in Rome, NY that night!

How have the Blue Knights impacted your life?
I was fortunate to have so many amazing teachers in front of me that showed me what it’s really about. It’s about the experience for the members and that has translated into my own classroom, knowing that I always need to do everything I can for the kids. I also learned that if you can get through 12 hour rehearsal days during all days, you can get through any work day.

What are some the Blue Knights’ core values/principles that have resonated with you in life?
Like I said before, that I am there to serve the students of mine and do what is best for them.

What advice would you tell someone considering trying out for the Blue Knights?
It’s extremely difficult, but if it was easy and not scary, it wouldn’t be worth it.

Did you perform in the 2018 Alumni Corps and what was your favorite memory from our 60th Anniversary of the corps and the 25th Anniversary of BKPE?

I did perform in the front ensemble for the Alumni Corps, and I loved being around a front ensemble that has seen so much. Playing with members from the 80s and 90s was an amazing experience because I got to see the people that paved the way for me to be a part of something great.

How would you like to see other Blue Knight alumni get involved in the organization?

Stop by a rehersal and say hi. I am still working on staff with BKPE and it’s great to see alumni just stop by and just see what’s happening with the group. It would be a rewarding experience for all.
