Alumni Spotlight: Sarah Pichardo

What year(s) did you march in the Blue Knights?

-5 years as a member and 4 years on Admin.

What section?

-Colorguard

Education beyond high school?

-I attended the University of Texas at El Paso and graduated in 2017.

What is your current occupation?

I am currently a full-time assistant color guard and dance instructor in Terrell ISD.

Why did you choose to march with the Blue Knights?

In the summer of 2011, I was given the opportunity to fill in a spot mid-season and I immediately fell in love with Blue Knights and it became a home away from home. Honestly, the best 5 summers of my life.

What is your favorite drum corps memory?

I have so many it is hard to choose from, but one of the most memorable ones was from 2014 on the 4th of July when fireworks started going off during our closer. Truly one of the most magical experiences.

How have the Blue Knights impacted your life?

My experience with the Blue Knights has inspired me to continue teaching in the marching arts and take some of the lessons I have learned throughout my experience to help my students see growth not only as a performer but as a person in everything they do.

What are some of the Blue Knights’ core values/principles that have resonated with you in life?

When I think of core values/principles, I relate it back to our corps song.  Some days will be bad and others will be good, but we will always go on to find the small celebrations of each day that continue to shape our lives and who we are as people. Being a Blue Knight gave me strength

What advice would you tell someone considering trying out for the Blue Knights?

My advice to anyone considering being a part of the Blue Knights is to go for it and see what it is all about. Be open to learning something new whether it be related to your skills or lessons on and off the field.  Lastly, do not be afraid to ask questions or for help because everyone from veteran members, staff, and everyone behind the scenes wants you to have a great experience.

How would you like to see other Blue Knight alumni get involved in the organization?

For alumni interested in getting involved, volunteer whenever you can.  When I was on admin, it was always great to see alumni help out and share their experiences with current members.
