Alumni Spotlight: Tony DiPentino

Alumni Spotlight Tony DiPentino

What year(s) did you march in the Blue Knights?

I marched in both the Corp and Percussion Ensemble in 1995 and 1998.

What section?

In the Corps, I march Contra both years and in the Percussion Ensemble I marched 5th Bass in 95 and Snare in 98

Where did you attend high school?

I attended Arvada High School in Arvada Colorado and graduated in 1996.

Education beyond high school?

After HS I attended college for a few years, unfortunately, it was not for me so I decided to focus on family and get certifications in computer software development

What is your current occupation?

I am currently the Senior Manager for Cloud Delivery for Aleryx Inc.

Why did you choose to march with the Blue Knights?

Drum Corp has been in my blood since a young child. I remember watching my uncle march with the Troopers in the early 80’s. But what made me fall in love with Blue Knight was the 1994 show Trittico and the first year of the Blue Knights Percussion Ensemble. From that point forward I was a Blue Knight.

What is your favorite drum corps memory?

I think the one memory I think about, is the one I talk about the most when I see people from 98. I had the pleasure of having my birthday on the last day of our season that year. Not only was it my birthday, but it was also my 21st birthday. Well, there was a tradition that on your birthday, you get pranked by fellow members. Well, I knew it was coming and the moment our cool down was done I ran like I never ran before and tried to use out brand new Contra’s as a way to protect me. Well, I lost, all I remember was being left on one endzone with all my stuff in the other one. Needless to say, I had to run across the field to get it all, with my future wife laughing at me. When it was all done, the hornline sang happy birthday and it’s a memory I will never forget.

What are some of the Blue Knights’ core values/principles that have resonated with you in life?

You know I honestly don’t know where to start or end with this. Blue Knights were my family during the darkest time of my life. To this day I always follow, watch, attend as many events as I can.

What advice would you tell someone considering trying out for the Blue Knights?

Go for it, Blue Knights changed me for the better and I would not be the person I am today without them. Everything I am today is because of Blue Knights and I am forever grateful for my time with both the corp and ensemble.

How would you like to see other Blue Knight alumni get involved in the organization?

I would love to see more events where we can get together. There are so many people across the US that I miss and would love to see them, even if it’s a Zoom call.
