Felix Cruz III and Ronnie Pruitt Join 2025 BK Staff

The Blue Knights Drum and Bugle Corps is excited to announce two additions to the 2025 staff.

“We are very excited to bring on board these incredible, experienced educators who are all focused upon creating an unparalleled member experience and elevating the performance level of the Blue Knights,” said Blue Knights Director Mark Arnold. “There will be more announcements to make soon, and we’re looking forward to moving into our new year!”

Felix Cruz III will be stepping into the role of Brass Caption Head for the Blue Knights this year.

Felix is a professional trumpet player, private studio instructor, marching band consultant, and adjudicator from San Antonio, TX. A three-time World Champion, Cruz is an active member of the Drum Corps International community, most recently serving on the brass staff directly under JD Shaw at Phantom Regiment since 2020. Before his time with Phantom, he was on the brass staff under the tutelage of Chip Crotts at the World Champion Santa Clara Vanguard from 2016 to 2020, where he contributed to the brass team’s success in winning the Jim Ott Memorial Brass Trophy in 2018. Prior to that, he served on the brass staff for The Academy in 2015.

As a performer, Cruz marched with the 21-time World Champion Blue Devils from 2012-2014, where he was a soloist and named Performer of the Year in the highest-scoring show of all time, “Felliniesque.” During his time with the Blue Devils, Felix honed his approach and philosophy under the guidance of John Meehan and Todd Ryan. Cruz also holds a decorated Individual & Ensemble track record, having won 5 gold medals and 1 silver during his time as a marching member.

Now, as the newly appointed Brass Caption Head for the Blue Knights, Felix is thrilled to embark on this exciting new chapter. He is eager to bring his passion, experience, and innovative approach to the Blue Knights and looks forward to leading the brass section to new heights in the upcoming season.

Ronnie Pruitt returns to the Blue Knights as Staff and Ensemble Coordinator.

Mr. Pruitt studied Horn and Music Education at Southwest Texas State with Dr. Stephen Hager and conducting with Thomas Waggoner and John Stansberry.  While at SWTSU, Ronnie served as Drum Major, Principal Horn as well as Secretary for KKY. Ronnie would later receive a Master’s in Conducting from Stephen F. Austin under the tutelage of Fred J. Allen and Dr. Tim King. Ronnie was also fortunate to study with Jack Stamp, Dennis Fischer, Eugene Corporon, James Jordan, and Dr. Milt Allen during his time at SFA.

Ronnie has been in public music education for over 30 years. While most of his tenure has been at the high school level, Ronnie has contributed to Junior High, Middle School, and University classrooms.  His bands were consistently rated Superior and Award winning at the highest levels. He has been on staff for multiple State Championships, Honor Band Finalist and Midwest performing ensembles.

Ronnie has extensive experience in the Drum Corps activity having been on drum corps staff with The Blue Stars, Phantom Regiment, and Blue Knights. Ronnie has retired from full-time education and transitioned to a life of sailing with Paula, his wife of 30 years, and recently moved onto their boat and enjoy sailing the Caribbean.

Please welcome these two fine educators to the 2025 Blue Knights Drum and Bugle Corps staff!
