Ken Adams announced as DCI Volunteer of the Year

DENVER, CO – The Blue Knights Drum & Bugle Corps and Ascend Performing Arts is excited to announce that Ken Adams has been announced as Drum Corps International’s Volunteer of the Year!

Ken has served as a volunteer with the Blue Knights since 1996. He has served on the Blue Knights Booster Club for many years before being elected to our Board of Directors in 2002 where he also served as the Board President for many years.

As a member of the Board of Directors, Ken was instrumental in leading the organization through its transition to Ascend Performing Arts and continues to serve on the Board where he leads the Board through its strategic planning process. Ken also serves on the DCI Corps Board Consortium steering committee since its inception.

In addition to his governance role, Ken serves as the recruiting coordinator for the Blue Knights horn line, utilizing his marketing expertise to assure a solid membership within our brass section. As a part of our recruiting process, Ken organizes and runs all of our satellite camps throughout the United States and also has attended TMEA in San Antonio to operate our recruiting booth for the past 14 years.

Even after his sons finished marching as members of the Blue Knights in the late ‘90s, Ken Adams’ passion for the marching arts kept him around. Regardless of position, he does whatever he can for the corps.

Since his volunteer tenure began in 1996, Adams has evolved into the corps’ renaissance man, moving from the booster club to the board of directors, to the board president where he served for many years. He also serves as the Blue Knights’ recruiting coordinator while organizing and running the corps’ many satellite audition camps across the country.

“There is no one more deserving of this honor than Ken Adams,” said Mark Arnold, Ascend Performing Arts Executive Director. “Ken has tirelessly supported the Drum Corps Activity since first marching in the Erie Thunderbirds years ago. His sons marched in the Blue Knights in the late 90’s and Ken has volunteered for the Blue Knights and been instrumental in our success through the years.”

Ken has served on the Blue Knights Booster Board, Corporate Board, the DCI Corps Board Consortium, as well as a member of the Friends of DCI.  From rebranding our organization, strategic planning, being engaged on the national level, and as recruiting director, he has done it all.

Ken’s passion is unrivaled. Nearly every student who expresses interest in joining the Blue Knights horn line quickly receives a personal call from him, welcoming them to the organization and inviting them to the audition camp. Every student who has marched in the Blue Knights horn line for the past 15 years knows Ken, and many will credit him for their success beyond drum corps.

Thank you, Ken Adams, for your years of dedication and support of the Blue Knights Drum & Bugle Corps the drum corps community!
