Blue Knights Health & Safety Update – July 24, 2022

DENVER, CO – Ascend Performing Arts and Blue Knights are dedicated to providing a healthy and safe environment for its members, family, and staff. The Blue Knights ensembles (Blue Knights Drum & Bugle Corps, Blue Knights Percussion Ensemble, and Blue Knights Winds), as well as Winter Guard International (WGI) and Drum Corps International (DCI), are committed to keeping our members and staff informed.

Since the beginning of the 2022 season, the Blue Knights Drum & Bugle Corps has followed the U.S. Centers for Disease Control guidelines and the Marching Arts Safety & Health Tour Restart Task Force recommendations.

In the course of our regular COVID-19 testing protocols today, our most recent round of tests indicated a positive infection rate that exceeds our established benchmarks.

“The Blue Knights are continuing to work with our professional medical team to isolate and care for sick individuals in an effort to mitigate the spread to a point where performers can safely return to the field for future performances,” said Blue Knights Executive Director, Daniel Belcher. “This decision is made to prioritize the safety and wellbeing of our members, as well as the safety of other organizations.”

As part of the Blue Knights’ ongoing COVID-19 mitigation protocols, we kindly ask our family, friends, and BK Nation to follow these guidelines during our rehearsals and shows:

  • All outdoor rehearsals are open to the public, but indoor rehearsals are closed.
  • Please refrain from entering the Blue Knights’ warm-up and parking areas while at rehearsal and shows.
  • Any interaction with our members, staff, or volunteers should be limited to outdoors, last less than 15 minutes, and all individuals must wear a mask and stay more than 6 feet away.
  • Our members, staff, and volunteers will be required to wear a mask indoors and outdoors when in close proximity to anyone outside of our “bubble.”

“It is our hope to fulfill our upcoming performance obligations, but we will need to make that decision on a daily basis depending on how many members are unable to perform,” Daniel Belcher said. “Thank you to the parents and staff who are taking care of our members during this time to ensure the health and safety to everyone involved.”
