Felix Cruz III
Felix Cruz is a professional trumpet player, private studio instructor, marching band consultant, and adjudicator from San Antonio, Texas. A three-time World Champion, Felix currently serves as Brass Co-Caption Head for the Blue Knights Drum & Bugle Corps, entering his third year with the organization.
An active member of the Drum Corps International community, Felix has spent over a decade performing and teaching at the highest levels of the activity. Before joining the Blue Knights, he served on the brass staff of Phantom Regiment under JD Shaw from 2020–2024. Prior to Phantom Regiment, Felix was a member of the Santa Clara Vanguard brass staff under Chip Crotts from 2016–2020, contributing to the ensemble’s success in earning the Jim Ott Memorial Brass Trophy during their World Championship 2018 season. He previously served on the brass staff of The Academy in 2015.
As a performer, Felix marched with the 21-time World Champion Blue Devils from 2012–2014, performing as a soloist and being named Performer of the Year in the highest-scoring production in DCI history, “Felliniesque.” During his time with the Blue Devils, he developed his approach to performance and brass pedagogy under the guidance of DCI Hall of Fame educators including John Meehan and Todd Ryan.
Today, Felix brings his experience as both a performer and educator into his work with students and ensembles across the country. His approach centers on creating a fun and professional culture where students can actualize their full potential as musicians and more importantly as people.
Felix is excited to continue his work with the Blue Knights and to share the knowledge and experiences he has gained throughout his career with the next generation of musicians.
